The Shiloh Shepherd breed is the result of 30+ years of type-to-type breeding, with the objective of returning to the Old World style shepherd dog, with soundness, temperament and health intact. Using specific American, German and Canadian Shepherd lines, the Breed Founder* achieved the "Shiloh Look." In the 1980's, an infusion of: Malamute, was added to certain Shiloh bloodlines. This was done to reduce pelvic angle, increase bone, do away with certain genetic disorders, etc. --- and resulted in the Shiloh Shepherd we see today. Bloodlines that have the infusion are referred to as "MAW" (rhymes with "cow") lines. Each generation subsequent to the infusion is assigned a generational rating as follows: 1G is the first generation following the infusion; 2G is the second generation following the infusion; etc. Bloodlines without the infusion are called "non-MAW." The Shiloh Shepherd was bred to have a medium to medium-soft temperament (although other temperaments are seen). Typically, Shilohs are calm and friendly, and great with children, yet they can be excellent protection dogs. Shilohs can be seen excelling in conformation, obedience, herding, therapy, search and rescue, and service work. Shiloh are not recommended for aggression work. * The SSBA Registry is not affiliated withthe Breed Founder, or her organization.
